Meet Lucy: Public Speaker, Painter and Future Neurologist!

What is your name? Lucy

How old are you and where are you from? I’m 15 and I’m from Harker Heights, TX

How long have you had Tourette Syndrome? 1 year

What kinds of symptoms do you have? Coprolalia, blinking, jumping, scratching, self-hitting, barking, punching, OCD and so many others, but I don’t think that this page has enough room.

What is life like for you living with Tourette Syndrome? It’s like a roller coaster. There are good weeks and bad weeks.

What advice can you give other kids who are newly diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome? Life with Tourette Syndrome is up and down, you just have to learn to roll with the punches.

What is the hardest thing about living with Tourette Syndrome? When I go out with my friends and people stare at me or give me weird looks. That is when having Tourette Syndrome bothers me the most.

What do you think other people should know about Tourette Syndrome? Those bad words that you hear coming from my mouth, I’m truly sorry if you are offended by them, but that’s not me, that’s my Tourette Syndrome.

What are your strengths and what do you like to do? My strengths are that I can easily learn new things, I’m responsible, and I’m fun! I like public speaking, reading, painting, singing, biking, and learning!

What are your goals in life? I want to go to Med School and become a Neurologist. I might even specialize in Tourette Syndrome, so that way I can inspire patients who come to me and see that I may have Tourette Syndrome, but I didn’t let that stop me from pursuing my dream.
